Abstract [en]

Second Skin is a material-based bachelor’s project that takes the spacesuit as both symbol and starting point to explore the intersection of science fiction, textile craft, and speculative design. Through traditional techniques such as sewing, weaving, dyeing, and crochet, I have created a sculptural garment that challenges the spacesuit’s established associations with power, technology, and masculinity. Positioned between function and fiction, the work reflects on notions of identity, future narratives, and who gets to be included in them. Drawing inspiration from the visual language of sci-fi  I translate hard, high-tech components into soft textile forms — imagining buttons, wires, and hatches as essential but fictional life-support systems. The result is a hybrid object suspended in space: a textile interpretation of the space suit that suggests an alternative future shaped by care, slowness, and play.
