Abstract [en]

This project stems from the personal experience of undergoing psychotherapy and reflecting on the spatial environment of therapy rooms. It investigates how interior design can impact the emotional and psychological state of individuals in therapeutic settings, with a particular focus on comfort, autonomy, and emotional safety. The work begins with a simple question: how does the physical environment of a therapy room affect the therapeutic process? Drawing on personal reflections and interviews with psychotherapists, the research addresses the subtle yet significant influence that space can have on openness, anxiety, and self-expression.

The design process was shaped by a human-centered and participatory approach, including a series of workshops in which participants shared their personal experiences of therapy environments. These conversations informed the development of a series of tactile, adaptable, and abstract objects designed using patchwork and quilting techniques. The goal was not to impose a fixed aesthetic or functionality, but to offer open-ended spatial elements that could evoke familiarity, playfulness, or calm—depending on individual perception and interaction. Ultimately, the project challenges conventional therapy room design by emphasizing flexibility, emotional resonance, and user agency, offering a more nuanced and personal way of creating healing environments.
