The text, based on the author's doctoral studies, is closely connected to her participation in the exhibition “Making Knowledge” at Gustavsbergs Konsthall 2012. It provides an account of how crafts can be understood in relation to national identity and mechanisms of exclusionary and inclusionary operation. Of particular interest are the dynamics of hybridity and homelessness, whereby conceptions of tradition are replaced with multiple or “diffracted” structures of practice.
