Abstract [en]

Where do we go from here? Intertwines a personal story with an event of social unrest and the act of disobedience. Two different stories yet similar in many ways. I am interested in the subjective writing of history. My work started to be purely based on documentation of media archives and photography concerning violence but ended in a personal story concerning violence. The core concept is the act of mimicry and self-immolation and how that in my work transcends into my personal writing that is an outcome of symbolic violence. The series of images of burned out cars I see as a clear act of subjective violence. With the inspiration from black liberation thinkers such as Adrian Piper, bell hooks and Frantz Fanon I try to verbalize the inner and outer gaze one wears as alienated. There is a split in oneself; one has internalized the message of social constructions yet one wants to break out of those norms. I wonder if it is only when there is social unrest one feels part of the public space? I began my search trying to understand the endlessness of violence and ended up with understanding my own experience of violence in the public realm.
