Abstract [en]

This master thesis deals with the theme of memory, it is through an artistic process I have investigated and peeled off to a specific memory, the hut. It is in the work of the personal memory through a craft process it transforms into something public. The hut is constructed out of corrugated boxes, corrugated boxes casted in clay. To cast an object differs according to me from sculpting the object; it is the function rather than the sensual feeling that is sought after. It is about the clarity and accuracy through the casted object that suggest something vague and indeterminate. I see the corrugated box as an urban symbol, an object most people have a relationship with, a relationship that we have had through different situations over the years. They wore on new items for the home and then the home itself when we moved. We built huts of them as children; we hid ourselves, and our treasures in them. It is a work with similarities to the traditions that are trompe l'oeil, it has a lot to do with deceive the eye, it is not an imitation of a real object in detail but an illustration of the box as a symbol. The question of my masterwork have been circulating about the object as memory carrier, how it in the viewer's relationship to an object can get memories that has ben remained latent to show up. The sculptural work and paper has run in parallel and the artistic work would not be as clear without the interaction. The results I have presented is partly in response to question, but above all, I have managed to get a better understanding of how the theme of memory and the working technique with casts and coulering clay can be used in a very conscious way in their own artistic practice. My hope is that an understanding arises also with the reader and viewer of this study.
