Abstract [en]

This project looks at how the Roma have been ignored and, at the same time, have become scapegoats in the current economic crisis. Many Roma have been displaced and uprooted by forces of discrimination and persecution. Freedom of movement in Europe has allowed Roma to seek their fortune (or misfortune) throughout the EU. By using interviews, street photography and a visual anthropological approach, the Roma found begging on the streets of Stockholm are presented to the public. The aim is to awaken curiosity concerning these anonymous figures on the streets and enable the public to regard them as characters of flesh and blood. It is artistic research motivated by moral indignation at the ignominious fate of Europe’s largest minority.
