Because I have worked with fashion at Konstfack, my final project also focuses on this theme. My previous projects have explored the wearer’s references and preferences, deconstruction of the human body and the reflection of light versus textiles.
I am ambivalent to the fashion industry because of its commercialism, and this provides the starting point for my degree project. How can I work with fashion and find my own place, when I disagree with so many of its values?
In my final collection I work with a type of haute couture idea - handcrafted details and time consuming techniques. Can well-crafted and one-of-a-kind garments raise the status and longevity of clothes?
The techniques I have chosen are batik, shibori and draping, and I work with the whole impression, a total look, from hats to shoes.
