Abstract [sv]

Denna rapport redogör för ett kandidatexamensprojekt 15 p i industridesign på Konstfack University College of Arts Crafts and Design. Projektet är ett gestaltningsprojekt som behandlar ett koncept om en ny utombordsmotor för privat bruk. Jag har under projektets gång identifierat ett antal värdeord från användare och en position på marknaden som har resulterat i en utombordsmotor med en tydlig miljlöprofil.

Användaren och målgruppen för denna utombordsmotor har ett aktivt båtliv som kräverstor flexibilitet av motorn.

Konceptutvecklingen och då främst tekniska detaljer har arbetats fram i samarbete med sakkunniga inom förbränningsteknik på KTH. Resultatet är en hybridmotor som går på el-drift i låga hastigheter och förbränningsmotor i högre hastigheter.

Stor fokus har lagts på gestaltningen i en process som har innefattat både tvådimensionellt skissarbete och tredimensionellt modellarbete. Formen strävar efter att uttrycka ett hybridkoncept innehållande två motorer. Motorn är “brandad” mot Volvo Penta men grundar sig endast på deras värdeord, något samarbete med Volvo Penta har inte förekommit. Resultatet är gestaltat i en skalenlig modell.

Abstract [en]

This report describes a final thesis of 15 credits in industrial design at Konstfack

University College of Art Craft and Design. This is a form project that manages a concept for a new outboard engine for private use.I have during the journey of this project identified a number of value words from useras well as a position on the market that has resulted in a outboard engine with a clearenvironmental friendly profile.

The user and target group for this outboard engine have an active “boat-life” thatrequires great flexibility from this engine.

The concept development and most of the technical details has been rendered in collaboration with experts in combustion technique at KTH (Royal institute of Technology). The result is a concept hybrid engine that runs on electricity in low speeds and gasoline or ethanol in high speeds.

A great deal of attention has been put on the form through a process that has involved both two-dimensional sketching and three-dimensional models. The form strives to express a hybrid concept containing two separate engines. The concept is branded towards Volvo Penta but is only based on their value words. There has been none collaboration with Volvo Penta in this project. The concept result is displayed through a full scale model.
