Mint Condition: exploring the potential of the intimate and the personal
University of Arts, Crafts and Design, Department of Fine Art.
2024 (English)Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis [Artistic work]
Abstract [en]

The dissertation deals with the potential of employing lived personal experiences as content in artistic production. Through prose and creative writing, it reflects on and remembers episodes from a severe depression that led to long-term hospitalisation in 2022. It articulates experiences of feeling suicidal, documents electroshock treatment, self-harm, and recovery. It argues that the personal resonance between the viewer and the artwork can provide nuances and genuineness in discussing the social conditions in our lives and time.
