Including excerpts of the two different transcripts, “Transcript 1: Mother’s perspective" and “Transcript 2: Where this way of working really started”, I examine my process of sourcing information through informal conversations. Diving into the significance of storytelling and information passed down orally, this essay explores the importance of storytelling and informal conversations in my art practice; the ever growing presence of informal speech within our society and the value of sourcing informal speech. I will use one of my most recent installation pieces called unpacked: Listen With Patience (2023), as an example. This installation consisted of three dialogue sound pieces placed separately in different parts of a home made up of cardboards. It was shown in my BFA solo exhibition at Konstfack. Through this bachelor essay I am trying to point to this unspoken prejudice towards using informal speech in an academic setting.
