Utställning, Österängens Konsthall, Jönköping, 5 febrauri - 20 mars 2022

Description [en]

In the 1950s and 1960s The African and Asian leaders from the Non Alignment Movement arrived to the Yugoslavian island Brioni with their cages with animals – gifts to Josip Broz Tito, who had transformed the island to his own Eden. The creation of Brioni as a phantasmagoric place has started already 50 years earlier when the industrialist Paul Kupelweiser started a zoo and cultivated the desserted island to a center of tourism for the European nobility. In the film we meet Tito and Kupelweiser, who both came back from the dead,  to tell us about their efforts to create a fantastic, colony-like place in the center of Europe. The installation uses documents, collage and photographic works to portrait the aesthetical/political layers of Brioni.
