Abstract [en]
The degree project Archive of Lost Interior Spaces intends to make archives of public collections a space for discussion, shared discovery, and conversation. It aims to reconstitute the way archives are maintained, by making it a continuous act to question, explore and revise history. Opening up the archive is a strategy to remind us of who we are and to protect what brings us together.
Through alternative methods of documenting architecture, the project maps out the previous existence of several public interiors from 20th century Stockholm, a vanishing cultural heritage. Fragments from the mappings make out a collection for which an archival system is proposed. This structure works as the interface between the public and the collection, made possible through a compromised climate between public space and the archive. The archive’s infrastructure works as a curatorial tool where the interested public, as well as experts, can themselves explore a selected portion of an entire collection.
