The Dream Institute: a research based project about subversive rest and collective dreaming

Abstract [en]

The Dream Institute is a serial of dream research acts and public interventions.

The machines that would free us from labour, got us to step up the pace. We are too tired to think our- selves out of our box. We must rest to wake up, sleep to dream, and dream up new possibilities, to be able to change our tempo and our community. We must share the dreams to make them stick to our collective consciousness, to make them real.

This work is about collective dreaming and rest in public.

The project is departing from our modern grind culture, a culture of performance-based self-esteem, char- acterized by workaholism. We met the tempo of the machines and became machine-like ourselves.

The Dream Institute is inviting rest through poetic interventions and is challenging the way that we are relating to each other. Can public napping lure us out of the hamster wheel, slow down the city ́s tempo and demands, and change the way we are living? It seems like it can!
