Abstract [en]

‘Have you heard my jewellery?’ is a research and process-based project

evolving from my long-lasting interest in different modes of perception.

Through comparative methods, I explore sound and the role it has played

within the history of jewellery and reflect on what importance it is carrying

concerning contemporary culture and its influence on the craft/art field.

In this paper, I use jewellery as a research tool and explore the notion of sonic

aura – an incorporeal feature of objects and bodies enhancing their materiality

and physical presence, oftentimes taking up imaginative meanings. Through

merging different skillsets and mediums, I speculate about the shift to digital

space and how materiality can be possibly translated into a virtual setting with

all its underlying sensorial qualities.

At the end of this paper, through the description of my artistic process, I open

up the question of an undisciplined approach to jewellery making and

jewellery becoming an open-source medium informed by various streams of

creative making and digital tools. Moreover, I deliberate about the importance

of research and how can research be translated into gallery space and

become equal to the display of craft/art artifacts.
