This project looks at some of Sweden’s oldest industrially produced raw materials and how they are produced today. Copper, hides and birch wood are all materials that most people recognize, but how much material gets discarded due to this image?
The expectations on the visual appearance of these materials are not always in line with their origin. By learning all the steps behind producing the materials, I have found potential in the unwanted. Through material investigations, I have both challenged and pushed the boundaries of these otherwise discarded materials.
With this project, I want to investigate how the silent knowledge of the material production can affect the design process and how this in return can give important insights into the transition into a more sustainable and long lasting production.
