The Speed Of Ice Cream: Some Of My Basic Anal Orgies And Haschociations

Abstract [en]

My artistic investment in various areas of interest such as graffiti, comics, classical art and modernist figurative art, forms a rare experience for a painter of today. The aim of the essay has been to describe my thought processes regarding painting, and by doing so tell something about what painting can mean to a contemporary artist. I explore the subject both in terms of formal issues like figuration, representation and the painting process, and in terms of subject matter. In the end of the essay, I tie the two together and make a conclusion about how the use of historical painterly tools for figuration and historical references for subject matter (especially in terms of metanarratives) can, in the clash with the postmodern condition, revitalise art.

To describe my view on painting in this essay, I often connect it with other fields or phenomenons. For example I compare the act of drawing after nature with the act of rhyming in rap music. This is to stay as true to my own thought processes as possible. But also to create surprising unexpected outcomes in the text.
