Through this project I want to examine how I can visualize the unseen dimensions of consciousness. Based on my interest in the hypnotic state and the transcendence of mind I have looked deeper into theories about consciousness and reality.
Within the field of quantum physics, ideas have emerged about the meaning and expansion of consciousness in the universe. Some scientists say that consciousness could be one of the fundamental building blocks of nature such as materia and spacetime. Consciousness and materia could be inseparable properties - sharing the same fluxing, wave-like movement - therefore being different aspects of the same phenomena.
By creating three-dimensional textile objects inspired by stones, with patterns and colour effects made through dyeing technics such as shibori, I am trying to interpret and express the unknown dimensions of consciousness. New Age and the psychedelic movement, dealing with the expanded consciousness, are aesthetic influences in my work. I also use light and textile qualities such as transparency and weight to visualize a dreamlike, transcending state of mind.
In my research I have looked deeper in to the works of artists such as Hilma af Klint, James Turell and Mariko Mori who are working with subjects within the metaphysical and/or cosmological sphere.
