Abstract [en]

You could say that my master project started when I read Vilém Flussers essay The Lever

Strikes Back. In this essay Flusser writes about machines as simulated organs of the

human body as well as describing simple tools as machines. This essay had a disturbing

effect on me; If I look at the objects surrounding me as machines and artificial organs I

have to ask myself; what does these machines want? And if it is I who inform these

machines, what do I want and who informs me? Disturbing and inspiring questions that

have led me to construct my own machines and perhaps, in a philosophical way, made me

a part of a bigger machine.

My two main research questions must be these: How does the machine look like from my

craft influenced perspective and what makes this machine work?

The first question is investigated and answered in several ways in my three dimensional

artistic work. The second question is more complex but I hope that it is at least partly

answered in my essay. In order to attack this problematic question I´ve written a fictional

essay based on real references, thus making the essay a part of the Machine.
